Storm in a #TrumpCup as well As #MarcosIsNotAHero. Hillary Clinton's Makeup

Storm in the #TrumpCup and #MarcosIsNotAHero. Makeup by TseYin Lee BBC News

18 November 2016

Today's social trends include Trump supporters looking to have his name printed on coffee cups, anger at the former Filipino President Ferdinand Marcos being buried in the Heroes Cemetery, Hillary Clinton's first public appearance after losing the White House sparks a discussion about makeup.

Storm in a #TrumpCup

The Twitter followers of President-elect Donald Trump encourage each other to ask Trump's name to be included on their coffees at Starbucks. The campaign is currently trending in the US with the hashtag #TrumpCup. What's the deal?

The campaign was apparently initiated by the posting of a YouTube video posted by @lollicakesFL on November 8th that purportedly shows a server of the coffee chain refusing Trump's name on a customer cup. Another employee reported the incident to the police.

The video was distributed more widely after it was reported in Infowars.com which is a website with an history of publishing pro-Trump and conspiracist stories and being republished by a number of Trump-supporting accounts that have hundreds of thousands of followers.

"Every time you go into @Starbucks, ask them to write TRUMP on the cup." !!!" tweeted @RamboBiggs.

"Operation Trump Cup" 1) Go to Starbucks and tell them that your name is Trump 2) Share the video with friends If they don't want to, tweet @BakedAlaska

This is despite @lollicakesFL going back to Starbucks on 9/11 and having no trouble getting her #TrumpCup.

She posted a photo of it saying: "And I'm TRUMP today !!!! Amazingly, the cops weren't called, and nobody was offended."

Another prominent account for Trump supporters has recently posted what appears to be problem-free and successful attempt to secure a #TrumpCup.

However, not everyone agrees with the decision. I'm not going to a Starbucks. One account stated that she would rather support her local mom-and-pop shop and give her money.

#MarcosIsNotAHero

Many Filipinos are upset over the burial of Ferdinand Marcos, former President, in the Heroes Cemetery.

The hashtag #MarcosIsNotAHero has been trending in the Philippines with over 67,000 tweets and 85,000 people discussing it on Facebook.

"Let THIS go down in those history books. That it was done in secret. It wasn't celebrated in the United States," said one popular tweet.

"I am curious what his epitaph might read: Here: Lies. Another said: #MarcosBurial#MarcosNOTaHero

But the Marcos family has its supporters. Videos of the event posted by the former president's eldest daughter, Imee, on Facebook have been viewed hundreds of thousands of times.

"This is truly touching. The man is a great leader and now that is finally going to be buried... Rest in Peace , President Marcos. We can rest here too... Thank you for being the most powerful leader in our country," said one comment on the video.

Makeup or no makeup: why is that a question?

Hillary Clinton's first public appearance since losing her bid for the White House this week has sparked a heated discussion on social media regarding her makeup. Or, rather, the absence thereof, in comparison to when she campaigned.

"Hillary Clinton looks awful. I'm talking about horrible! It seems like she didn't bother do her hair or makeup. This loss devastated her whole world. One tweet read, "Wow!"

"Hillary Clinton appears as if her entire glamour squad has quit her. The makeup is gone, and the feathers in her hair. She just woke from a nightmare. Really," said another.

Ohers had a different opinion about her more simple appearance.

"Inspired by this video of a nearly makeup-free Clinton on the benefits of getting up," said one comment.

The issue merits any comment, was the most popular feeling.

"Shaming Hillary Clinton for not wearing makeup? Really?! Women are so much more than the makeup. It's 2016 for heaven's sake!" said one user.

"May it be noted that when an autocrat rose to power in the US the USweekly blog discussed the amount of makeup Secretary Clinton used to wear," agreed another.
