While browsing through the blogosphere searching for WoW-related tidbits other day, I stumbled upon a blurb containing the picture on the right. It didn't tell me much beyond the fact that the tattooed girl was a Tauren Warrior and that her other half had tribal Horde symbols made. This should be prefaced by the fact that I'm not a stranger to body art, and have seven tattoos. It just got me curious about how much WoW ink was available and what kinds of designs people were getting.
Armed with Google, search terms, and a raging curiosity I set off in the in search of World of Warcraft ink and the people behind it.
The image at the top left was the first one I discovered. This piece is owned by a beautiful young lady who plays Dryope, an undead frost mage on the EU servers. The photos she has posted of her tattoo "Forsaken Loyalty." Curious, I managed to contact her, and she gave me some insight into her choice:
I chose to get the Forsaken emblem even though it sounds absurd. I fell in love with Forsaken games from the moment they began. I was not just interested in the race I was playing but also the background and how the characters were made. My love for the undead has grown so bad that I cannot, under any circumstances, play Alliance. Never for a second. Ever.
WoW is a great game. I also enjoy the lore and the fact that almost everyone in the game has a story. I've been wanting to get a tattoo for a while and when I saw this symbol, I knew it was the one for me. It serves two reasons in reality. There is nobody more loyal to me!
The detail and backstory are incredible! The Forsaken symbol is a striking tattoo design. MCCAINSOURCE.COM I'm sure Lady Sylvanas would approve. (For those who would like to see more detailed photos the links to larger images are located at the bottom.)
There were many more World of Warcraft tattoos. Some were good, some not so much. Some are featured on personal sites and some on tattooing websites that meant I couldn't copy them and use them here. (Sorry for the copyright issues. Surprisingly enough, a few of these are available on Allakhazam! These include what appears be an Alliance Paladin or Warrior and another back piece -- this time with the Troll symbol. I even stumbled across more photos of the girl sporting a murloc tattoo. Mrgggrl!
After looking over the many designs that people have come up with, I have to admit that I'm considering getting a bit of WoW themed ink for myself. There are enough symbols in the game and related stories that I'm sure every fan of fantasy could discover a myriad of things to buy. I am curious whether anyone WoW fans have already gotten tattoos. Anyone thinking about getting some WoW ink? Do you have any other tattoos? Would it be worth getting a WoW ink tattoo? (Would it be a pleasure to show off your tattoo?) If so, drop me a line!)
A WoW symbol tattoo would be fine with me, because WoW Insider has helped me to get in touch with the game more than before. I'm thinking I'll skip a murloc tattoo. I don't think I'm that brave. Not to mention the tender spot!
