The World of Warcraft's worlds are meant to look like different worlds, however they're not exactly the same. mccainsource You can choose one world and follow its rules. If you wish to live in another world you'll need to do lots of work. However, a quick glance on the WoW Realm Forums reveals that each server could be described as a mini high school.
No matter what names they are given, all realms have them. They have both celebrities who are known for their exploits (Death & Taxes on Korgath and Sebudai with Doomhammer) or are infamous for their mistakes (Overrated on Black Dragonflight and Avatar on several servers, but originally Warsong). They have private dramas as well as screrenshots which will be hilarious only to the residents of that realm.
Servers are famous for their various strengths: Argent Dawn is known for its roleplaying (and entertaining Goldshire Cyber stories), Mal'Ganis is known for its world PvP, and Black Dragonflight, Korgath and Korgath have top raiding guilds. Some servers have rivalries -for instance, Arthas and Mal'Ganis have been fighting each other about server population since the transfer system was opened, residents of Blackrock regularly invade RP servers when Blackrock itself goes down and informal competitions are abound within battlegroups. A few servers even have official mottos. Two that I can recall at the moment are "Tichondrius not for you" or "Mal'Ganis KICKS!"
My server, Magtheridon, was released shortly after its launch. Our only celebrity is Xzin, we do not have any world-changing guilds, and we're certainly not the best in PvP. Many people discuss the "Magtheridon Way", which, as far as I know is a matter of Alliance outnumbering Horde and a wide use of the server's non-official motto, which that's three words long, begins with "go", and ends with"yourself." It's still a great location, despite the lag, and it would be a great place to transfer.
What's the overall culture of your server? Is it friendly to new players or populated?
