Locating A Lost Minecraft Base - Edunham

I happen to administer a small, mostly-vanilla Minecraft server. I was playing with my friends in an isolated location in the middle of nowhere on another day. I slept in an unoccupied bed at the base, thinking that would be enough to bring me back later.

After returning to the spawn area and installing the warp plugin (and learning about Essentials) rebooting the server, and teleporting around to other coordinates to install their warps, I tried to kill my avatar in order to return it to its bed. It woke up at spawn, instead of returning to its bed. Since my friends had already left for the night I wasn't able to simply teleport to them. And I didn't record the coordinates of the base. What can I do to get them back?

A little digging in the manuals revealed that there isn't a console command that can give the server's last-known location or the bed location of any player to an administrator. The server needs to have information about players because it is likely to keep track of their beds when they return to the game.

On the server, there's the world/playerdata/ directory containing one file per player that the server has ever seen. These are the player UUIDs. You can copy them into this tool to create usernames. Minecraft servers I decided to skip the tool since the last modified timestamps showed the files belonged to my friends who were both at our base. So I copied a .dat file that appeared to correspond to a person whose address or bed location would be of interest to me. A running program on the file indicated that it was gzipped, but unzipping it , and then checking the result for anything relevant using strings did not yield anything comprehensible.

The site reminded me that .dat was encoded with NBT. The recommended NBT Explorer tool appeared to require a lot of Mono runtime components to be compatible with Linux and I grabbed some code that claimed to be an NBT wrapper for Python to see if it would do anything useful.
