Students at the University of Pennsylvania are recreating their campus on "Minecraft" after COVID-19 ended their school year early. Since the spread of coronavirus throughout the globe celebrations like weddings and graduations were moved online to "Minecraft," Animal Crossing and other games played online.

Although the University of Pennsylvania's academic year is over, a few students aren't quite ready for departure.



A group of UPenn students created an Minecraft server and coordinated the recreation of the campus in the two weeks that ended in March. Since then, they've spoken with Columbia University and Brown University students who are working on similar projects to set up possible challenges that resemble the Hunger Games between schools . They've also planned to host spring traditions in the server.



The block-building game "Minecraft," which Microsoft purchased in 2014 for $2.5 billion it has been one of the most played games in the world over the last 10 years. It had 112 million active players each month at the time of September. This number has increased to 145 million.

Students from colleges and universities across the US have been removed from their schools and changed to remote learning for the remainder of the semester. Some schools switched to remote learning when a student was found to be positive for COVID-19 which is the coronavirus virus, while others made the switch in anticipation of. Colleges also weighed in on the dangers of bringing students back from spring break, having traveled all over the world.
