'Minecraft' Gets its Own Official Monthly Swag Box

Monthly subscription boxes are an original concept. Subscribers pay a fee to receive t-shirts as well as other items. Companies like Loot Crate, Fancy, Graze and Dollar Shave Club all utilise the model but there's a new entrant on the scene Mojang. That's right, Minecraft now has its own swag box.



For just $30 per month, Mojang says it will send its subscribers a special "Mine Chest" full of "hand-picked, official, Minecraft goodies." Although the exact contents aren't known, Mojang promises customers an t-shirt, crafting recipes, and other collectibles every month.



The Mine Chest was first unveiled in July 2015 at MineCon. Mojang offered the keys to 5,000 beta testers to help them secure their first boxes. Now it's available to all. Although it's a ideal gift for any Minecraft fan However, it comes with some stipulations.



First, Mojang requires that subscribers choose a monthly plan, which is paid in advance, however, shipments will not be made until May. Mojang says that paying up front will allow it to better serve customers by purchasing more expensive items in larger quantities to reduce costs. Next, a $7 shipping fee will be added to each monthly Mine Chest. Additionally, Mine Chests are currently only available in the US. Mojang blames the high cost of shipping for its exclusivity, however it says it's "working very hard" to lower the cost and to expand their availability.
