Remove the shield from the upper right box into your inventory.



Your shield is now ready for use.

To make your shield, you need wood planks and iron ore. Wood planks can be made out of any type of wood. Iron ore can be found in the groundrock or slightly above sea level.



How to get wood planks:



Punch or chop trees until you have some wood logs.



There are only two logs to create enough planks to make the shield.



Open your crafting menu, or craft table, and place your logs in the center.



Move planks from your upper right-hand box into the inventory.



Planks are created in four-layer stacks, so you will quickly produce a large number of planks.



How to Locate Iron Ore and create Iron Bars



Iron ore is the most common kind of ore found in Minecraft It's why you'll see it everywhere. Take a look underground starting at sea level down to the bedrock. If you find an underground cave system that is natural or a deep ravine you'll see a lot of exposed veins of iron ore that are ready to mine. Iron bars are also found in chests when iron ore is discovered in a village, stronghold mine shaft, tower, sunken ship, or stronghold.



Here's how you can get iron ore and make an iron bar for your shield.



Find and mine some iron ore.



Open your furnace.



Your furnace will require iron ore as well as a fuel source such as charcoal, coal or firewood.
