Modern day Kandaq is ruled by a gang of mercenaries who oppress the people very related to the slave drivers of old. The greatest problem is that Black Adam never really emerges as a fully realized character. Unfortunately, The Rock portrays Black Adam with the personality of his namesake. He is a wrecking ball that merely has to be pointed in the right path. Even when the movie does try to develop Adam and provide him with some pathos as a result of his tragic backstory, it comes off as half-baked.
