Avanos Medical has recalled the Cortrak*2 Ental Access System in response to injuries and deaths caused by the misplacement of the nasoenteric as well as na tube. Avanos Medical feeding tube The recall currently covers 629 devices that were distributed throughout the United States.
Avanos has marketed its Cortrak*2 Enteral Access System for its on-screen visualization of the stomach or small bowel to assist in the correct positioning of a medical feed tube. Incorrectly inserting a tube can result in damage to vocal cords, the lungs and the trachea. Avanos Mediacal Cortrak 2 Avanos Medical's recall notice states that as of 2015, there were 60 deaths of patients and 23 injuries resulting from misplacement nasogastric feed tubes when using the CORTRAK*2 entry access system.
