Is the tap water contaminated with glyphosate herbicides? Where are these unsubstantiated rumors coming from?
What is a Glyphosate herbicide?

Glyphosate (ingredient name "glyphosateisopropylamine sodium") is an herbicide employed to eliminate the spread of pests in agriculture and gardens all over the world including Japan. When it is sprayed, it gets absorption from the green parts of the plant, such as stems and leaves, migrates to the roots and then withers the whole. Since it's classified as an "non-selective" herbicide, all plants die when the agent is applied on the leaf surface. Because the patent on the ingredients has expired, many pesticide companies now offer herbicides made of glyphosate. The glyphosate herbicides available being sold are examined by a rigorous inspector.

One of the attributes of glyphosate (glyphosate) is its "safety". The chemical is extremely non-toxic to animals and blocks the activity of enzymes in plants. The sprayed chemical solution becomes food for microorganisms once it comes in contact with the soil. It is then differentiated into water and carbon dioxide. This makes it distinctive because it contains no herbicidal substances. Since it permits no-tillage cultivation, it is recognized as a pesticide that helps in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Glyphosate from tap water

Tap water is safe

Is glyphosate mixed with tap water

Weekly Shincho stated in April 2020 that "In Japan, there's no normal value left for glyphosate present in the tap water. It's just the goal value." Additionally it is more than other pesticides and other countries, and drinking water contaminated with pesticides. I have written an article in which I stated that there is. グリホサート There has been speculation that concentrations of high levels could remain in the tap water. However, this isn't the case.

First, glyphosate is not an "standard" value. It is only a "target" value. グリホサート グリホサート Tap water has never detected the presence of glyphosate in a concentration greater than 0.2ppm (1). An Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare study revealed that Japan's tap water does not contain glyphosate at levels exceeding 0.02ppm. The reason for this is there is no danger of detection.

Additionally the glyphosate spray reduces the rate of soil degradation and decays in as little as two days. The same concentration is transferred to tap water and rivers and it will not pollute.

Japanese tap water is safe

Tap water in Japan is safe. There is no problem drinking tap water as it is. There are 51 rigorous inspection items, and they are supplied based on strict quality control stipulated by the law. Water is classified into "acidic", "neutral" and "alkaline" according to the pH difference however, tap water in Japan is defined by the water quality standard so that pH is near neutral (5.8 or greater and 8.6 or less). Iron rust is still possible in the event that your water supply pipes have been damaged.

https://www.nies.go.jp/kisplus/dtl/chem/YOT00096 How is tapwater produced? グリホサート グリホサート Tap water mostly uses dam and river water as its raw water source. The water collected in the purification plant for water is sterilized by injecting chlorine after removing impurities by precipitation and filtration. The tap water is carried to every household via water pipes.

Story of Japanese pesticide residues standard value

The standard value for glyphosate residue for wheat in Japan is 5 ppm at present as of December 2017. However, prior to that, it was 5 ppm. There are numerous opinions on this subject, including "We reduced the amount to 30ppm six times and ignored health risks."

The residual standard value for glyphosate remains the same as that of the standard international.

But the reality is that we didn't loosen the standard, rather we adjusted it to the standard residual value of the international standard. Japan imports wheat in massive amounts from the United States, Canada and South America. The importer (the overseas producer) determines the amount of glyphosate used at the standard of international standards (30ppm). However, if the normal amount in Japan is 5ppm, it will exceed the value of the standard and imports are prohibited. The supply of wheat may be affected and Japanese food could be in danger. To ensure that we meet international standards, we've changed the standards for these values. The safety issue remains even though the standard values are current.

Need a correct understanding of glyphosate

To avoid consumers being emotionally influenced by pesticide residues discussions, it is important that you have the correct knowledge. Experts have conducted scientific research. It is important not to let rumors hinder your daily food habits.
