How to Obtain Minecraft Amethyst Shards and how to make use of them

Minecraft Amethyst Shards can be found by mining clusters of amethyst found with geodes. You can use them as fancy decorations and also as a crafting material to make a Spyglass or Tinted Glass. If you're looking to search for these purple crystal shards you'll need to understand the specifics of where you can find Amethyst Geodes and how to maximize your shard gains. Here are the details on how to locate and mine Amethyst Shards within Minecraft.

Where to find Amethyst Geodes in Minecraft

To find an Amethyst Geode in Minecraft, it is best to go underground and start mining. You don't have to go very deep, however: Amethyst geodes can spawn between Y-level 64 and Y-level 30. Because they are massive and often cracked, geodes can be easily identified. You may also notice small glowing lights from the distance.

Keep an eye out for smooth basalt during mining. This is the dark outer layer of an amethyst Geode. Break through this first layer to find calcite, and then move on to the amethyst. Inside there are Blocks of Amethyst, Budding Amethyst, Amethyst Buds and Amethyst Clusters. Let's see which one is which:

How do you get Amethyst Shards in Minecraft from Amethyst Clusters

Minecraft Netherite is extremely valuable but it's much harder to locate the Amesthyst Shards.

Amethyst Shards can be retrieved from the growing amethyst clusters. They are found in Amethyst Geodes. If you mine amethyst clusters, you will receive Minecraft Amethyst Shards in exchange, and they can be used to craft specific items.

It is important to only mine fully matured ones. The smaller Minecraft Amethyst Buds will not drop any Amethyst Shards. There are three stages of growth before an Amethyst Bud becomes an Amethyst Cluster. Look at the image above to see how you can distinguish them!

Fully formed Amethyst Clusters drop two Minecraft Amethyst Shards when broken with any other tool and four when mined using a pickaxe. The number of Amethyst Shards that drop can be further increased with the Fortune enchantment. Make use of the Silk Touch enchantment to pick up the cluster.

Minecraft Amethyst Clusters and Buds are a result of Budding Amethyst blocks. You can recognize them by the cross-shape on their sides. Budding Amethyst is not possible to mine, but you can return to find new-spawned Amethyst Buds. The other solid amethyst block is called a 'Block of Amethyst', and can only be mined using the aid of a pickaxe. The block is only decorative, and cannot grow Amethyst Buds. You can use Amethyst Shards to create more Minecraft Blocks of Amethyst if you want to build with them as a material.

What you can craft using Minecraft Amethyst Shards

Amethyst Shards are a new, posh building material. You can also use them to create the following items:

Spyglass Spyglass: Spyglass is one-half inch thick Amethyst Shard layered on top of two Copper Ingots. Spyglasses are great for zooming into distant objects. Tinted Glass: Two blocks of Tinted Glass will be made from one block of glass and an Amethyst Shard on each side. Tinted Glass is a building material which blocks all light (but you can still see through it). It isn't able to suffocate mobs however, it can be used again when it's broken.

Block of Amethyst: As mentioned before, this is purely decorative. You can create an Block of Amethyst with four Amethyst Shards.

Time to dig up some Amethyst Shards and build that luxurious amethyst mansion!

Minecraft Lightning Rod. Minecraft Honeycomb. Minecraft Frogs.
