It took a few months, but Minecraft's The Wild Update is nearly there. Mojang and Microsoft will release The Wild across all platforms on June 7 and it's just as expansive as promised. The update includes two biomes including a mangrove swamp and the "deep dark" that hides dangerous mobs (such as the Shrieker and Warden) and also special resources. You can also use on a vessel with a chest, meaning you don't need to take your items with you if you're crossing a lake.
The upgrade also includes an dirt block (made with dirt and water, naturally) as well as a popular item collector mob (the allay) and a frog, which develops from tadpoles. It even produces "froglights" when it tries to attack magma.
Mojang had to reconsider their expansion strategy following the initial release. The original plan was for the deep dark biome to be launched in 2021. However the biome was renamed The Wild after the developer struggled with the size and complexity of its two-part Caves and Cliffs Update. While it isn't surprising that the Minecraft team wants to keep its game relevant over a decade after its release however, the timeline suggests that it may have been a bit too eager to please.
