Minecrafter Builds a Giant Halo ring that actually Spins

Home News Survival Minecraft Minecrafter builds a giant Halo ring that actually freaking spins

By Lauren Morton published 4 January 22

It requires a few modifications to download, but you can download it and explore it yourself.

If there's one thing that a world made of cubes isn't supposed to do, it's making circles. However, some Minecraft players just love defying the rules to create impressive round structures. One brave builder has gone even further, throwing every rule of the game out of the window to create a ring that rotates. A complete moving Halo ring with beam emitters, biomes, and even a crashed Pelican. The best part is that you can download and explore the thing yourself.

The Minecraft YouTuber named Reach claims that his Halo ring was inspired by a build shared by a different creator. The smaller ring world is impressive, but the comments on the post suggested that it could be even more impressive when it actually worked. Reach was up to the challenge using WorldEdit and Create to design and create an actual ring that moves.

It was a major undertaking. He made use of the Clockwork Bearing blocks in the Create mod to control the ring's movement. It turned out that a single clockwork bearing attached to the ring's edge could not do the job. He explains that the ring generated by Minecraft was too big to render the first attempt to make it move.

So Reach decided to break it into four sections each with a rotating bearing and an arm. Reach ended up with eight bearings connected to the different sections of the ring as spokes. He says he was convinced it wouldn't work but his determination and desire to create something new for YouTube and his viewers was enough to make it work. What do you think? Holy crap, the thing is moving.

Planet Minecraft has the project that you can download if wish to experience the beauty of the ring-world. You'll need to run it on Minecraft version 1.16 along with several different mods for Forge and Create, Flywheel, and some custom Halo textures if you'd like. Once inside, you'll need to manually start the bearings to get them moving. Once it's down on the ground, it'll continue to tick.

It doesn't move constantly, so you won’t have to keep up with the hamster wheel which moves all the time. The whole ring rotates in increments of about 30 seconds. It was a good thing since I was feeling a bit disoriented and motion sick exploring it. It'll take me a bit longer to build my space legs. Reach was required to lock each block together in order to spin the ring correctly, so you won’t be able to build or play with mine here. It's more of a diorama rather than a real world that you can play, however it's still very cool.

You can listen to some more of the process that Reach used in the video on YouTube below where he explains the difficulties of designing the ring and the various options he came up with to give the entire thing a Halo feel.
Freezing A Moment

Bless the Minecraft builders. They never quit.
