Brundidge Recalls Her Son's Sayings

Then, in March, an excursion to Texas revealed the miracle she needed. As she walked around the RV park in which the family was staying, Brundidge noticed Brandon was suddenly filled with confidence. Normally quiet and shy, the little boy was strutting and smiling, talking to strangers and, frankly making his mom nervous with his newfound bravado.

"I wondered, why all of a sudden is my son so courageous?" Brundidge told CNN.

"These are my fans," Brandon replied. They know me. They love me."

Brundige was confused until her son stopped her short and pointed at something.

"See? It's my sign!" He said.

She was shocked to see a sign with the same slogan as numerous banners, bumper stickers and other paraphernalia found in the area.

"That's not a sign," Brundidge remembers saying to her son. "That's your book."

The book led to a charming meeting

The origins and significance of "Let's Go Brandon" aren't all that positive.

The phrase is a sworn vow to F Joe Biden that was used in a broadcast of the NASCAR Sparks 300 race on October 2021. The crowd at Talladega Superspeedway was singing the phrase. Kelli Stavast from NBC Sports was reportedly confused by the meaning and claimed they were saying "Let’s go Brandon" to honor Brandon Brown, the winner of the race.

"Let's go Brandon," explained

Conservative individuals immediately reacted to the misinterpretationand enshrined it deeply in the political vernacular. Now, declarations of "Let's Go Brandon" are often seen online and on a variety of products that are marketed to conservatives.

Brandon Brundidge didn’t know any of this. It was a source of encouragement for him.

Within one month of her son's epiphany and with an abundance of effort from her publisher and illustrator Sheletta Brundidge released her new book, "Brandon Spots His Sign," this April.

Brandon is anxious about participating in sports like swimming and dancing due to his autism. Then , he sees "Let's Go Brandon" messages that encourage him to take more chances. The back of the book also contains tips for encouraging people with autism.

The book caught the eye of President Joe Biden, who sent Brandon a letter of admiration. It also reached Brown who was the NASCAR driver who unwittingly helped to start the "Let's Go Brandon" craze. Brown had been publicly in a stale mood about the term, but was struggling to retain sponsors in view of its controversial nature.

Brown's team contacted the Brundidges and invited them to attend an coming Xfinity Series race. Within a week, the Brundidges family was at Wisconsin's Road America track where they were treated like VIPs. Brown had Brundidge's cover printed on the Camaro's hood.

The book's cover is displayed on the hood of Brown's race car.

"I know how it goes. If you're respected and respected, people are more likely to invite you to attend. But Brandon [Brown] was the most charming person," Brundidge said. He could have had time. He could have looked at the book and thought, "That's cool." But he understood the urgency of creating awareness."

Brandon, who was the eldest Brandon even got to help move Brown's car out of the way which according to him on CNN, was one of his favorite moments of the day. This, as well as getting to get to know Brandon.

The boy also gave the driver an autistic awareness pendant that was attached to an ornament that was matched to his own.

"He hasn't removed it since then," Brundidge said.

The two Brandons show off their autism awareness pendants.

Brown believed that the enchanting encounter offered a chance for him to reclaim an expression he feels has become too negative.

Brown stated that "To be able to achieve it was like a breakthrough moment for us," after the Xfinity Series race. "This could be a positive experience. It can be positive. It doesn't need to be a cause for snark or division."

CNN reached out to NASCAR to get their comments.

And that meeting has sparked an interest in friendship

The new relationship between the Brandons did not end after the race. Sheletta Brundidge has said that Brown texts or calls her son all the time to talk about Minecraft or to check in on him.

The whole ordeal has been a huge motivational boost for the young Brandon.

Brundidge says, "I have seen him confidence rise to the top." "Kids with autism are often left out or picked last. out. This is often because other children aren't able to comprehend why they do the things they do.

"You just have to pray for a strong support system, and for love," she continues. Brandon Brown has loved my son. He has shed light on autism in the world for all to be able to.

Brandon Brundidge now has gained a new friend, new fans, and piles of new books to sign. He stated to CNN that it was hard work. His mom hopes this experience will demonstrate how children with autism can be successful with encouragement and love.

And, even in the midst of a conflict, there are always little miracles.
