With the backing of billions from Microsoft, Minecraft's momentum isn't slowing. The game supports VR, and allows players to tweak their worlds with Add-Ons. The movie has a release date (although that will be in 2019) and will soon have its own official novel. Games Mojang has confirmed that the forthcoming book called Minecraft: The Island, is being written by none other than Max Brooks, the scribe behind the zombie novel World War Z.
"Think cuboid Robinson Crusoe, but madder: a hero stranded in a foreign country with a new set of rules, struggling to survive against overwhelming odds," says Mojang's Marsh Davies. "I have a look at the first draft and it's absolutely stunning as we had hoped it would be."
It's not clear when the book will be released or whether it will be linked to the movie but it does appear that it will be the first in a series of. Publishing house Del Rey, a science fiction offshoot of Penguin Random House, is overseeing the entire process. The company already commented that it was "fortunate" to have someone with Max's extraordinary talent and enthusiasm on board for the series' launch.
Parents will likely be accountable for more expenses, but some will be pleased for the fact that Minecraft is expanding its reach into education. Minecraft: Education Edition will assist teachers starting November 1st. The release of the upcoming novels will only increase children's enthusiasm for reading.
