Tim Sweeney, founder and CEO of Epic Games, says that the Epic Games store "definitely won't" restrict the sale of games that contain NFTs. Sweeney's comment follows a statement from Minecraft developer Mojang which laid out its stance not to allow blockchain technologies or NFTs in Minecraft.
After Mojang's announcement, a fan contacted Sweeney on Twitter to enquire whether Epic Games would take a similar stance, however Sweeney replied with a negative.
He believes that developers should be able choose what games they want to create and that you can decide whether or no to play them. "I believe stores and operating system developers should not interfere by imposing their views onto others. We won't.

Sweeney's comments were reacted to by a user who inquired what the difference is between this policy and Epic Games their policy on content that is discriminatory and obscene. Sweeney said that this difference comes down to "editorial and brand judgements" and believes that Epic chooses "to draw the line at acceptable to mainstream norms."
Some users on the PC gaming subreddit have expressed displeasure with Sweeney's stance, highlighting how the Epic CEO has previously weighed in strongly against NFTs. In September 2021, Sweeney publicly posted a copy of his email response via Twitter, which states "We don't want to touch NFTs because the entire field is tangled up with an intractable combination of scams, fascinating decentralised tech foundations, and scams."
Now Sweeney is certain that developers who are using the Epic Game store should have the choice to pursue such integrations if they wish however. In a follow-up tweet that "Crypto is complex.
