Students at the University of Pennsylvania are recreating their campus with "Minecraft" after COVID-19 finished their school year early. Graduations and weddings are being moved online to "Minecraft," "Animal Crossing," and other online games since the coronavirus swept throughout the world.

The school year at the University of Pennsylvania, like most other US colleges, is over, but some students weren't quite ready to leave.
A group of UPenn students created an Minecraft server and coordinated re-creating the campus over the two weeks that ended in March. They've had contact with Brown University and Columbia University students working on similar projects and have discussed the possibility of creating Hunger Games-like challenges between schools.

The block-building game "Minecraft," which Microsoft bought in 2014 for $2.5 billion, has been one of the most popular games around the world over the last 10 years. In September it had 112 million active players every month, and the number has been reported to have increased to 145 million.
Colleges and universities across the US have sent students home and turned to remote learning for the rest of the semester. Some schools made the switch after students were diagnosed with COVID-19, a coronavirus disease. Some schools did it prior to the student arrived. Colleges also recognized the risk of students returning from spring break having traveled across the globe.
Although they are unable to be present on campus, Penn students recreated the campus in detail. The process is in progress. Take a look at their incredible work here.
