WoW has been going through a period of change in China lately. The 9 did not get approval from the government for Wrath of the Lich King to be published. This may have resulted in Blizzard licensing the operation of WoW to Netease in China.
In the chaos, it has been the players stuck in the middle, their availability in the air trapped in the middle, killing Kil'jaedan repeatedly as they wait for Northrend with bated breath. There have been a few players who have taken matters to their own. Wowdad.Net Stars of China decided to leave for Taiwanese servers where Wrath was already released. They've settled in on the Crystalpine Stinger server very nicely, as they have now defeated Mimiron on 25-man Hard Mode, making them only the second guild in the world to have achieved this feat.
It's an incredible feat on its own. However is there anything we can learn about the future of WoW in China? Sure, not all Chinese player will be able to find the time and energy to switch over to the Taiwanese server and re-level their characters from scratch, but it looks that there are at the very least some players who are doing this. It's possible that there will even be an outside possibility that one or two players will test out World of Fight just to find something new to do without Wrath.
It remains to be seen if this Taiwan migration will affect WoW in China. But for now, it is clear that the Stars guild is an excellent example. Congratulations to them!
