It has been able to stop wide-spread discrimination among the population with the help of the 1964 civil rights law and the tort suit called Motel Decision. A landmark case that involved the motel located in Mississippi involved the refusal of a franchisee to lease a motel room to an African American family because of the proprietor's belief that the family's status was unlawful. The proprietor, as per the court decision, acted in line with the United States government's ban on discrimination on the basis of race, gender, nationality, age, religion, sexual orientation, and the status of marriage. The United States Department of Justice claimed that the hotel discriminated against the African American because of their status as criminals. The court ruled that the purpose of the motel owner was discrimination against African American because of their race, and thus violate the right to equal legal protection.

In the case known as Brush V. United States of America and another Mississippi case was also decided. 경산op was a case of racial discrimination against one white motel guestwho was being at a motel owned by the association. The U.S. Department of Justice declared that they will not file a suit against the organization.

In the end, the U.S. Department of Justice has left the past decisions in effect of the 1964 civil rights law to remain in effect. This means that any actions that are based on previous rulings of the Supreme Court will no longer be legally binding in Mississippi. The Mississippi state government has asked the federal government to file suit against the motel in protest of the hotel's policy of not permitting guests of color stay in its four-star hotel violated the terms of the constitution as well as the 1964 civil rights act.

In Brush vs. Duval, the United States Supreme Court ruled against the motel in Mississippi. The court ruled that the hotel had violated the 14th amendment of the Constitution that guarantees the right to equal treatment under all laws of the state. In effect, the court found that black men were treated differently by the motel's decision to not let guests sleep in its five-star motel. The court concluded that the motel was within its rights to refuse accommodations on the basis of race. The landmark decision triggered a significant shift in Mississippi's hospitality business. Several new motels were opened in the state.
