Minecraft Says it Wants nothing to have to do with Blockchain, NFTs, or NFTs.

While some industries are still weighing in on NFTs, the videogame community is proving that NFTs stand as "No F'n Thank" in their field.



The latest company to take a stand against non-fungible tokens is Mojang Studios, the developer of the hugely loved video game Minecraft.



In a statement released today on the official Minecraft website, titled simply "Minecraft and NFTs," the company made it crystal clear that it would not permit any kind of blockchain or NFT integration into its game.



Mojang Studios and Minecraft laid out a number of reasons for being against NFTs. They also stated that fake shortages play an important role in the process. NFTs, also known as digital assets or non-fungible tokens are digital assets that are stored on a blockchain. A unique token is minted and then linked to the media file to prove ownership of the piece which has turned NFTs into an investment option for speculation.



The statement clarifies that Minecraft is not opposed to monetizing, and uses the example of users paying for access to a Minecraft server as a valid use scenario. However, since NFTs could alter the game's dynamics and give players with monetary advantages in games, the Minecraft developer is opposed to the technology.



"To ensure that Minecraft players enjoy a safe and inclusive experience, blockchain technology is not permitted to be integrated into our Minecraft client and server applications, nor can be used to create NFTs for any game content, including worlds, skins, persona items, or other mods," declares the statement.



The developer also raised concerns about the trustworthiness of third-party companies that mint Minecraft-related NFTs, and their tendencies to abandon projects, and fraudulently inflate prices on the NFT aftermarkets.



Molly White, the Web3 is Going Great website, succinctly stated that "No blockchain for the game of block" The website monitors the frauds, scams and drama in the Web3 world. This includes NFT projects and cryptocurrency.



As White points out that the value of the existing (and unauthorized) Minecraft NFT projects tanked due to the news of Mojang Studios' statement. NFT Worlds, also associated with tokens, saw both the value of the token as well as its NFT floor prices fall by more than 70 percent.



Minecraft's Mojang Studios is far from the first video game company to run completely free of NFTs. Gamers have made it clear that they don't like the idea of purchasing NFTs in addition to the video games they already purchase. The industry has followed their lead and listened to their anti-NFT opinions. Sony just unveiled Playstation Stars, a loyalty program that rewards players with digital collectibles. These digital collectibles are not NFTs, the company stated.



"It's certainly not NFTs. Absolutely not. You cannot trade them or sell them. Minecraft Texture Packs This isn't using any Blockchain technology and certainly not NFTs," Grace Chen, Sony's director of network advertising and loyalty said in an interview with The Washington Post.



Mojang Studios ended its statement by stating that they would monitor the development of blockchain technology in the future use cases. However this leaves the door open to potential uses based on current possibilities. However, for the near future, this is another win for gamers who absolutely hate NFTs.
