Just a few months after making its grand debut at this year's E3, Minecraft has finally been released to the Android Market, much to the delight of cube enthusiasts and people who like to waste their time. Mojang hopes to faithfully recreate Minecraft on mobile platforms with this Pocket Edition app. Mojang is focusing on the game's artistic side. Version Alpha 0.1 will let players explore worlds that are randomly generated and invite friends to join their worlds and save multi-player worlds to their mobile phones. They can also manipulate 36 different kinds of blocks with the ease of their touchscreens. The game is currently available for Sony Ericsson Xperia Play. Mojang plans to launch it "in the near future" for other Android phones. It's available now for $6.99 or click past the break for more details, as per the full press release.
Say hello to Minecraft - Pocket Edition
Today we are releasing the first version of Minecraft - Pocket Edition. The game will be exclusive to Xperia Play for a limited time, and will be released to other Android devices in the near future.
Alpha 0.1 will be the first version and will focus on the artistic aspect of Minecraft. We have tried to put in the features that are appropriate for playing on a mobile device while preserving the fundamentals of the Minecraft experience. You can select blocks using the touchscreen, or navigate through them using the circle and square buttons on your Xperia Play device. Multi-player support on a local wireless network is included in the initial version. This allows you to create a virtual world with your friends and invite them to join. minecraftservers.best This version supports:

We plan to keep the Pocket Edition in development for as long as is possible, just like the PC/Mac/Linux Minecraft version. We'd love to hear from the Minecraft community about our latest game, and what features you would like to see in future updates.
