The Warner Bros. Minecraft movie has an entirely new director... again. Variety reports that Peter Sollett has been hired to direct and write the long-awaited film. It was originally planned to release in May of this year. However, production has hit delays due to director change-ups. In the past, Rob McElhenney (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) was originally scheduled to direct the film, however, he quit the project last August. Robinson is back He had replaced Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum), who quit in 2014.
Sollett directed 2002's Raising Victor Vargas and 2008's Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. He was also recognized for his work on Five Feet High and Rising. Mojang Minecraft, the original developer of Minecraft is believed to be still involved in the making of the film.
Warner Bros. acquired the rights to Minecraft in 2014. The question now is whether Minecraft can still attract the same number of viewers as it did a few years back. It's unclear when the movie might be released but with a new director in place for the first time, it could be back on the right track.
