Using a practical, vocation-oriented approach, students focus on meeting the requirements of effective communication. Students practise writing, speaking, reading, listening, locating and documenting information, and using technology to communicate professionally. Students develop and strengthen communication skills that contribute to success in both educational and workplace environments. In choosing this program, you learn about anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, professional communication, ethics, jurisprudence in healthcare, massage theory and massage practice skills. Graduates from this program are able to use their judgement to provide safe, competent and ethical care as entry-to-practice massage therapists.
Introduction to Massage– You’ll work on improving your communication and assessment skills. You’ll learn to explain and demonstrate the basic massage strokes, proper pressure, and oil control. The Massage Therapy program is available as an eighteen-month certificate program. Upon acceptance, students begin classes in the fall and are enrolled for four consecutive semesters.

She pursued her interest in clinical massage through further work with a wellness center in Melbourne, Australia which expanded her knowledge in proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation and site-specific massage.
Transfer students must meet with either an Academic Advisor or the Director of the Massage Therapy program to determine possible transfer credit, course waivers, and substitutions. Students interested in pursuing the degree as a part-time student should plan for an additional 1 to 2 semesters to complete the program, depending on credit load taken and course offerings. For educators, both pre-professional and those involved in lifelong learning education, guidelines could help to shape curricular content. For continuing educators, guidelines could serve as an introduction to clinical protocols dealing with specific client presentations. Additionally, they may serve as examples in the use of guidelines and of adjustments made during clinical practice as models upon which to base case reports and accompanying client experiences for publication. The goal of the BPC is to develop a conceptual structure of evidence-based best practices for massage therapy. As a matter of clear definition, throughout this paper the term “evidence-based” is taken to include information from both research and clinical experience. Also worth noting at the outset is the distinction and separability between direct observations and any theoretical model or mechanism advanced as an explanation of observations.

This practice can also enhance strength, flexibility and the health of joints and soft tissue. This course is designed to expand on skills developed in the course Introduction to Swedish Massage.
