Technoblade, a YouTube personality who built an online following of millions through his humorous comments on videos of him playing Minecraft has passed away as his father announced in a post on his son's YouTube account.

Technoblade's Minecraft gameplay was watched by more than 11 million subscribers. He provided commentary on camera. He explained every day life events in his videos that range from the mundane to going to the doctor for a D.M.V. or as devastating as receiving a cancer diagnosis.

A video called "so long nerds" that was posted to Technoblade's YouTube channel on Thursday, and has been watched more than 26 million times by Friday afternoon, was a departure from the channel's typical style of bright, pixelated bricks. Instead, Technoblade's dad is shown in a chair with an adorable white dog and a stark white background.

His father, who does not reveal his name and reads an email from his son that begins: "Hello, everyone. Technoblade is here. If you're watching this, I am dead."

The message continues to reveal Technoblade's initial name, Alex. He didn’t use it on the internet. The video also contains some photos of Alex with his loved ones. He hasn't often appeared in his YouTube videos, preferring to portray himself as his avatar: a crowned, sword-wielding pig.

"If I had another hundred years to live I'm sure I'd prefer to be Technoblade again every single time," Alex's letter says. "Those were the happiest years of my life."

His father, who remains in tears throughout the video, says that he and his son had been discussing for months whether to film a final movie. His father claims that Alex wrote the letter and died just eight hours later.

"I don't think he did everything he wanted to say, but I think he got the main points," he says.

The video concludes with a letter that Alex's mother (who isn't identified) wrote. She wrote that her son did not want to be famous and was self-deprecating, even when his channel grew in popularity.

She wrote that Technoblade was always looking for ways to delight and reward their fans. He offered prizes online and encouraged good sportsmanship and most importantly, he shared his Minecraft adventures for entertainment and fun.

Alex's family could not be reached on Friday. Hypixel is a gaming company which worked with Technoblade, said the family requested that requests for comment not be sent to them. "The video they posted includes all the information they are confident about sharing at this point," Don Pireso, the company's lead administrator stated on Twitter in a direct message.

Alex posted his August video on his YouTube channel, where the first time he acknowledged his diagnosis of cancer. Like the others, the video included the game as he spoke off camera. He kept his self-deprecating , humorous style, avoiding any attempt to be serious. He also disclosed his age, which was 22.

In the video, he explained how the first round chemotherapy left him exhausted to the point that it was difficult for him to sit for a virtual doctor's appointment. He then joked "Sitting in the chair, am I Superman?"

After experiencing extreme discomfort in his arm, he claimed he was diagnosed. Although initially he dismissed the discomfort as a result of a repetitive strain injury from video games, he later admitted that his shoulder was swelling up after a few days of rest.

He also advised people to get a Covid-19 vaccine, saying that the treatment for cancer have weakened his immune system, which put him at a higher risk of serious illness from the coronavirus.

"I'm going to stand up and speak on behalf of all cancer patients when I say it is extremely annoying that hospitals are overwhelmed by patients dying of preventable illnesses," he said in the video. "I'm just saying, we're entitled to those hospital beds."

On social media, Technoblade's acquaintances and fans were awestruck by his humor and for being a role model to Minecraft players.

Minecraft is different from other games because its creator, Microsoft does not have control over the servers where players can connect online. Instead, players can create their own servers and join other players to create a huge universe of worlds within the Minecraft universe.

Hypixel which runs a network of Minecraft servers said it had created a digital book where users could write messages, and the book would be printed and sent out to Technoblade's family and friends. The company's tribute featured an illustration of Technoblade's pig as statue. Technoblade's success is linked in numerous ways to the achievement and success of a lot of people.
