Minecraft's ray tracing feature for Windows 10 has made its way out of beta just eight months after the feature first became accessible to users to test. The game's aesthetics have been changed by the addition of the ability to trace rays to NVIDIA's RTX graphic cards. As we mentioned in our hands-on review earlier this year the realistic lighting, reflections, and shadows that this feature can bring make Minecraft feel more immersive. While the game remains very simple, the game's lighting looks real. Shadows and reflections can make it feel as if you're in the real world.
To be able to experience what ray tracing adds to the game, you'll have to play the game on a PC equipped with a GPU from NVIDIA that can handle using ray tracing. Only maps and worlds that use a physical-based rendering texture pack will benefit from the benefits. NVIDIA announced that ray tracing puts more demands on your GPU. So, it employs its DLSSAI rendering technology to ensure Minecraft runs at minimum 60 frames per second, at a resolution of 1080x 1920. The game is able to run at 4K at 60FPS with more advanced GPU models (RTX3080 and 3090).
You can download worlds that you can play with Ray Tracing on the Marketplace or create your own using help from NVIDIA's starter packs, if you need it. Minecraft and NVIDIA are also releasing two new worlds for free: Colosseum RTX is already available, while Dungeon Dash RTX is coming shortly.
