Minecraft won't finish the bridge to PS4, Vita and Xbox One until August, but an PlayStation Blog update lends a few more details on what to expect from the port to Sony's most recent home console.
We were previously told that the world's sizes were "a lot bigger" on consoles with more modern features, but this update offers specifics: you'll have 36 times the space for the most popular construction sites on the PS4 as you did on the PS3. It's possible to think of the DualShock 4's touchpad as an additional tool to add to your inventory also, as 4J Studios is implementing optional support for its use in crafting or menu navigation.
The PS4 version will allow eight players online game play, with a single PS4 being able to host up to four players on a splitscreen. Minecraft's PS4 launch will also be followed by "a collection of DLC for Sony coming soon after release."
Saves can be transferred from the PS3 or Xbox 360 to allow you to keep developing your architectural abilities without having to start over. You can upgrade to digital versions starting in August, using the PS4 or Xbox One builds. It costs $4.99. MINECRAFT SERVERS PlayStation 3 owners can also upgrade to the Vita version, but they'll have to stick with the PS3.
Mojang would like to offer discounts to those spinning disc-based versions of Minecraft also however, since the post mentions that it's "proving difficult to setup," we'll have to wait for more info to see if it's feasible.
