Minecraft Steve has a Beard Once More

He also polished his shoes, however he refuses to tuck his shirt in properly.

For the first time in more than 10 years, the cult Minecraft (opens in new tab) default skin/character Steve has a beard in the most recent update to Minecraft's next version. The skins for both the default Steve and Alex characters in the beta launcher now come with a few minor tweaks to texture that can make a significant difference.

Steve has a new iconic beard. Sleeves are rolled up or cuffed sleeves, and more definition of color in key areas like the chest and arms. Maybe they've just shined the sleeves. It's difficult to say all that dust isn't it?

Alex is, however, sporting those same sleeve cuffs alongside more striking colors on the majority of their clothes. It's notable that there's a distinct layering and depth to Alex's hair.

The multi-year pandemic that has hit the world has been tough on everyone. Reviews Lots of people decided that this was the best time to get a beard because they were not leaving their homes or doing anything. This includes the infamous Minecraft Steve. Is that a canon? Of course, it isn't. It was a joke.

Steve's beard was gone for the first time in 2009, 13 years before Alex came onto the scene. Despite this the beard was visible in official artwork. The show even came to life when they inserted Steve into Super Smash Brothers.

Welcome back, beardy Steve. The fans seem excited. (opens in an entirely new tab)

In other Minecraft news, we've rounded up a bunch of the best texture packs (opens in new tab) for the well-known survival game. There's also a bit of an era of ruin-restoration happening as players make improvements to both out of game historical castles (opens in new tab) and the newly-added in-game ancient ruins.
