Patch 4.1 Introduces Guild Finder Feature

Accessibility is the main goal in Cataclysm. Blizzard's latest attempt at guild accessibility is launching with patch 4.1. The guild finder interface lets guild members to post recruitment announcements to the public of the realm.

The new guild finder feature is available to the leaders of guilds with established members as well as guildless players to make communication between prospective recruits and leaders easier. Only guilds actively seeking new members via the finder will appear in the interface for guild finders. Guild members who are not members have the option to browse the advertisements for recruitment. Guild leaders can choose their preferred style of play, their content preferences as well as the availability of members and a comment section to discuss the details. Hit the jump for the full announcement.

Patch 4.1: Guild Finder

In patch 4.1 we'll be introducing the Guild Finder as a new system designed to facilitate easier and faster guild recruitment. The Guild Finder will allow guild leaders and players to find a guild that they want to call their home. This will enable players to connect with other guilds that can result in a successful membership.

The Guild Finder is designed to serve as a bulletin board in the game for guilds that are actively seeking recruits. Prior to World of Warcraft, your options were limited. You would need to post messages on your realm message board or chat with other players using private messages or the chat channels. It can be a lengthy and time-consuming process. Guild Finder lets you send your "looking for new members” message 24 hours a days and is accessible to all characters in your faction from any location in the game.

A brand new Guild Finder button will now appear on your Micro Menu if you're either a leader in your guild or not a member of a guild.

As a leader of your guild, you'll be able to mention one or more of the guild's common interests (such as PvP or Raids, or Role Playing) as well as an overall time of week availability you're looking for (Weekdays or Weekends), and which roles you'd like to see from new members (Tank Healer, Tank). The Comment field allows you to write anything about your guild or the kind of members you are looking for. Do you only allow female orcs? Are you noticing that your guild is slowly moving from 10-person raiding to 25-person? Here we go again Maybe you'll only take new members if they're available on Thursdays at 12 noon. This is the best place to state that and assist potential members determine if your organization is what they're looking for.

The Guild Finder lets you browse through a directory of all the guilds that are looking for new members from the viewpoint of an unguilded player. Just launch the Guild Finder, tell it about your availability, class roles and the type of activities in your guild you're looking for, and then click "Browse Guilds." The second tab will bring you to a list with all the recruiting guilds that match your profile. You can learn more about them and, if you're interested in what you see, submit an application to join.

Requests to recruit guilds are listed on the Requests tab. From this third tab, guild leaders are able to review potential applicants and take the final steps to gain the new membership.

Whether you're a guild leader seeking to expand your ranks or a player seeking an organization that meets your highest standards, the Guild Finder provides an easy method to make new friends!

Personally I am a huge fan of this system. Making a server change on a whim is a headache sometimes, especially if your WoW friend base isn't huge. It is possible to team with other players who are similar to you to level and play together as well as the reputation and experience bonuses that come with leveling guilds can be a huge benefit.
