Minecraft is such a popular cultural phenomenon that it was supposed to have its own three-day event in September, complete with interactive exhibits as well as co-op and competitive games, live entertainment, panels and merchandise. B2PCONNECTIONS Tickets for the first ever Minecraft Festival in Orlando were set to be available this week. ReedPop -- which also organizes New York Comic Con and San Diego Comic Con - announced that the event was delayed by a whole year because of the coronavirus outbreak. Although the convention was months away and the epidemic could be resolved in the near future, the organizers producers, exhibitors and organizers have hit a wall in the process of planning the event and ensuring an enjoyable experience.
Fans won't have to miss out on Minecraft Live, though. The stream will continue as planned and will include the most recent Minecraft news as well as features and behind-the- scenes glimpses of upcoming developments.
With numerous conventions and events being cancelled or postponed due to coronavirus issues, this news isn't really a shock. It's a bit odd that ReedPop and Mojang Minecraft, the developers of Minecraft, announced the convention only a week ago when the COVID-19 virus was widely known. To their credit, however it was a smart decision to cancel the event prior to tickets going to sale and people had booked travel arrangements -- many headaches could have been avoided by taking preventive action.
