Hi I'm Phil

After school, gaining independance was very important to me so I began working in a hotel close to where I am from. I started with 0 experience in hospitality and quickly worked my way up to managment. I spent 10 years of my life working in hospitality with most of those years spent in a management role. These industry taught me a lot about being professional and efficient in fast paced stressful environments and helped me curate excellent interpersonal skills.

I lived abroad for 2 years in the south of france. This was a challenge and I had to learn the basics of the french language as well as navigating all the aspects of living in French society in a short amount of time, starting out completely alone with little money or help from others. I consider my time there to be a success and it helped me really develop character as an individual.

The last 10 years of my life have been spent in a mix of formal education as well as self directed learning with a predominantly IT focus. This experience taught me how to learn, how to educate myself. How to read technical documentation efficeintly and how to become acustomed to new technologies in a short amount of time, and be able to utilise them in projects. All of this learning gave me a passion for education and computer science.

During this time I also took on the role of mentor to my cohorts in both formal and informal settings. Feedback relating to which indicated I did very well.

I am here because I want to begin my career in this industry. I see computerised technology as a core driver in building a better world and I want to carve out my space in aiding this progess. Cloud technology is the future, and serverless architectures with microservices I believe to be more cost and energy effienct means of hosting IT applications wherever possible and helping startups and currently existing businesses migrate to the cloud I consider to be valuable and rewarding work.
