Minecraft player's 35-hour gaming marathon By Zoe Kleinman Technology reporter BBC News
12 October 2015
A British man is hoping he will break the record for Minecraft's longest-running game.
Joe Kelly from Cheltenham played the game for 35 hours, 35 minutes and 35 seconds and raised over $1800 to fund cancer research.
Martin Fornleitner, Austria, set the current record of 24 hours and 10 minutes in 2011.
Minecraft is about building structures from blocks, exploring new worlds and participating in combat.
The title has been sold in excess of 54 million copies around the world.
Microsoft purchased Mojang the company behind it, for $2.5bn (PS1.5bn) in the year 2000.
Mr Kelly who owns a film company and is a voice actor, has played the game since it came out in the year 2010. He usually plays only a few hours a week.
He stated to BBC that it was possible to remain awake without caffeine and it wasn't a problem.
"There were no stimulants other than sugar and stubbornness."
Mr. Kelly, who live streamed the entire game via YouTube and added that the stunt was a snare on his hands.
"My shoulders didn't ache and my back didn't hurt but the most difficult thing was my fingers.
"They hurt so much just from holding the mouse and keyboard and being in clenched position for this long.
"Every small break I got I was flexing my fingers."
Mr. Kelly and his girlfriend, Sarah Vallance, are now in the process of providing evidence of the feat to Guinness World Records.
He has no intention to take a break from the game.
He added, "I introduced my girlfriend Minecraft to Minecraft, we often play together."
" It's a thing we like to do together. I don't mind gaming."
