Minecraft - Introduction To Farming

Farming is a great method of acquiring items for your Minecraft adventures. Before you assume it's just "go and expand" like you see on popular game applications There are some things you need to think about.

Plant Farming

First, you'll need to create the hoe (in survival mode), or locate one on the tools tab. Then, you will need to find the patch that will allow you to start your farm. To begin, right-click on the spot. When it is a row of dirt that look like farmland, choose a seed you've found - whether from destruction of trees and other plants in survival mode or locating them in the materials tab in creative mode. Then right-click the area you wish to plant your seed. You'll then see small buds. You can make your plants grow naturally by surrounding them with water. The average time for full growth using water alone is between 5 and 10 minutes. You can continue your game play in the meantime, and then check your plants when ready. You can give your plants an extra boost by applying bonemeal (from bones from destroyed skeletons). Right-click the plant to apply the bonemeal, and it's done! Depending on the size of the plant (e.g. grass vs. tree) It takes anywhere from 1 to 5 clicks to see instant growth.

After the plant has been mature, it is ready to harvest. To make the fruit fall, you can kill the plant. Some plants that can be grown are sugarcane, pumpkins, wheat and carrots. You can make a jacko-lantern from a pumpkin and put it on your head.

Mob Farming

Mob farming is more intricate than traditional plant farming. The goal of mob farming isn't to grow plants , but to "grow" an army of enemies, which upon "birth" will die automatically, providing you with the items they will drop. Sounds gruesome however, the characters "grown" or spawned just disappear and fall to the ground, leaving behind valuable items such as ender pearls (which can be used for finding end portals), bones (which can be used as bonemeal or to train dogs), or string (for bows and arrows).

First, you need to find a good design. This won't be covered here. Water + Cliff is a popular method. One of the most important aspects of mob farming is a completely dark and dark area, since any dark place in Minecraft spawns enemy characters such as endermen and zombies, so keep this in mind when you begin to discover the intricacies of mob farming. You will need to choose a location that can provide complete darkness, such as going underground or ocean caves or even a night time within gameplay.
