Minecraft meet-up in Peterborough described as "awful"
14 September 2015
Parents of Minecraft gamers are displeased with the absence of activities and the long lines at an unofficial convention.
On Saturday, around 4,100 people attended MineVention at Peterborough Arena to meet stars and take part in games.
However, a lot of people have said they waited for hours to meet idols and eat food, and are suing for refunds.
Organiser Lisa O'Brien said the queues were long and she'd issue a statement regarding refunds when it was time.
The event is not affiliated with Minecraft developer Mojang and was started in Ireland. It was the first time that it was held in the UK.
TV presenter
Fans of Minecraft the worldwide gaming phenomenon, had the opportunity to meet "Youtubers" and take pictures and play games.
The event was hosted by Jason Bradbury, TV's Gadget Show host, and encouraged viewers to dress up as Steve the game's protagonist in an attempt to break the world record.
But afterwards it came under fire on social media with people complaining about long queues, a shortage of food and merchandise stalls as well as activities for fans.
Vicky Abraham shared on Facebook that she waited with her five-year old son for more than an hour just 30 seconds on the computer.
Another parent claimed that she had to wait 45 minutes for water bottles and said the experience was "appalling" with nothing to do. Another parent called the BBC to report that they had left after 30 minutes due to the long lines and that her son was "crying throughout the journey home".
Some people posted on Facebook that they were happy with the event, with one of them wrote: "I thought your event was great for PS15."
Lisa O'Brien, of O'Brien Event Management She said that she did "sympathise with parents, because we all have children". Due to the sheer number of people who turned on the day instead of purchasing tickets in advance, the lines were 45 minutes long, she explained.
She claimed that the convention has never been held on this scale before, and some official merchandise did not arrive on time for the event.
She said the organisers had "taken all feedback and suggestions" and would be meeting to determine the reasons for the incident, and that a second statement would be issued on Monday evening.
