Minecraft Mods Allow you to Disable Mojang's Controversial Chat Reporting

Minecraft: Java Edition's latest update added a new player reporting tool that lets players report "inappropriate chat messages or risky behaviour" for moderators to examine. While it appears to be a good idea from afar but a lot of Minecraft players aren't thrilled that it's now extending to private servers.

Because this is Minecraft the players can alter what they don't love. There are mods that remove messages of any information linking them to your profile.

It's possible to do this by making a few modifications. No Chat Reports from Aizistral appears to "strip cryptographic signatures", which associate messages that you send with your Minecraft Account. It also allows the Forge, Fabric and Modding APIs. NoEnryption is Doclic's Minecraft Spigot server software. TechnicallyCoded also supports Spigot and says that it's the only plugin that can fully replicating the vanilla behavior and supports multiple languages.

These mods are obviously used at your own risk. They work both client-side and server-side, however when you install them on a client-side other servers could stop you from joining if they choose to make sure that their profiles are secure. This is not a problem. You shouldn't be allowed to use mods to trolling people who want to have moderation.

Mojang's decision to moderate their game's community seems reasonable but it's also logical why players are concerned about private spaces being subjected to that moderation. Moderation teams aren't perfect and players are concerned about being banned from their own servers due to comments taken out of context. Even if moderation were perfect I don't believe it's is unreasonable for players to want to opt out of moderation with full understanding of what that means.

Mojang addressed feedback from users after the update was tested. "We recognize that private servers function independently from Mojang Studios, and many utilize this independence to create incredible Minecraft innovations that enrich the community," they wrote on the Minecraft site. "But it has always been the case that Minecraft servers of any size must comply with the EULA and the Commercial Usage Guidelines, as well as our Community Standards. Every player should have a safe Minecraft experience, no matter where they choose to play.

Mojang also was not in the right place to release this humorous video about Minecraft being updated in a variety of evil ways by a devious leader:

Mojang might claim that players must abide by "Community Standards" but it's important to note that 2b2t is a lawless server that's been known for slander, obsceneness, and other bad behavior. It's an awful place, I wouldn't wish to play there, and I'm sure Mojang would rather it didn't exist but it's also significant in terms of culture and was included in the Victoria and Albert Museum's Design/Play/Disrupt exhibit in London.
