Minecraft VR Arrives on Oculus Rift

The fans of the sandbox-based explorer game Minecraft will be able to get lost in its world of pixelated graphics when the game launches on the Oculus Rift.



Global Xbox and PC owners who own the headset will be able to receive a free Windows 10 beta upgrade to enable them to join the VR world.



The game is among the first major titles to launch on the much-hyped Facebook-owned Oculus Rift, which is scheduled for a European launch next month.

Mojang Minecraft's developer celebrated the game's launch by posting a the following blog post: "How's your face?" Is it prepared? Is it ready to allow Minecraft to be installed in it? It'd better be: today we're releasing a free update to Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta which will enable gamers to play Minecraft on Oculus Rift.'

Writing on Xbox Wire, the game's AR/VR creator, Mike McGrath, said: "For both new and experienced gamers, we hope the VR experience in Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta will show how powerful, evocative and immersive VR really can be.'



The VR version of the game comes with the ability to see over ledges.



The Rift version of Minecraft also features an Minecraft "living room" where players can zoom out from the first-person perspective and then return through a screen into their own virtual space. From there they can play the game on a monitor (pictured).

Mojang says that this includes tweaks in the in-play turning. This makes it more comfortable for players and allows them to explore their VR world.



A blog post on the Oculus Rift site said"Build, explore and fight mobs from an entirely new angle.



'With a VR headset on the other hand, confronting monster mobs can take on a whole new meaning; creeping into dark caves evokes greater trepidation thanks to 3D audio; and the glare of a stunning sunrise seems to wrap you in a more complete.'



Oculus RIFT GETS A OFFICIAL UK launch date



The Oculus RIft has been the most talked about tech for a while, beginning with the first developers kits sent out in 2012.



The latest news from the official press is that it will be available in the UK, Europe, and Canada on September 20th with prices of PS549 or EUR699. It's already available in the US priced at $599.



The headset is already available for purchase at John Lewis, Amazon, Game and Game. The kit will include Lucky's Tale platform game, along with hundreds of VR videos and films.



Oculus will be rolling out demo experiences at retailers across the UK in the coming weeks, with titles including: The Climb, Henry, Farlands and Oculus Dreamdeck.oculus.com/e...
