Minecraft Convention Firm Sorry over Peterborough's Infamous Event

Minecraft convention company is sorry for Peterborough's event that was a victim of complaints.

15 September 2015

After angry parents have criticized the convention on social media, the organizers of the Minecraft convention declared that they were "truly sorry".

But dozens of people said they waited for hours to meet with famous players, and have demanded refunds.

O'Brien Event Management said a new system to cut down on queues would be implemented in future.

The convention, which was not approved by Mojang Minecraft, the Minecraft-developer, gave fans the opportunity to meet YouTube celebrities, take photos, and play games.

Lisa O'Brien, at O'Brien Event Management, previously told the BBC that the queues were over 45 minutes due to a large amount of people turning up on the day rather than buying tickets in advance.

A second statement that was posted on the company's website read: "We are truly genuinely sorry that the event did not live up to some people's expectations.

"MineVention" is a meet-and-greet event, so there will be lines. However, it will give the children the unique opportunity to meet their heroes.

"We have taken all of your comments about the event into consideration and, in the future we will put in a new queuing system and much more content."

Peterborough Arena, responsible for catering, also released an apology for the long lines and the "sheer" amount of people who came through the doors on that day.

Both parties said they would follow up with any parents who came to them with a complaint.

No comments have been made regarding refunds, however, some parents told the BBC they received them on the day they complained to staff.

Online ticketing company YPlan announced that it was "actively seeking information about the event's partner to better understand its position regarding refunds, and will seek compensation for all of our customers who were unhappy with the event."
