Minecraft VR Arrives on Oculus Rift

Lovers of sandbox explorer game Minecraft will be able to get lost in its world of pixelated graphics, as the game launches on Oculus Rift.



Global Xbox and PC users with the headset already playing the game will be able get a free Windows 10 beta update to enter into the VR world.



The game is one of the first big games to be released on the much-hyped Facebook-owned Oculus Rift, which is scheduled for a European launch next month.

Minecraft's developer, Mojang, trumpeted the game's arrival with an excited blog post: 'How's your face looking? Are you ready? Are you ready to allow Minecraft to be installed on it? Writing on Xbox Wire, the game's AR/VR developer Mike McGrath, said: For both experienced and new gamers, we hope the VR experience in Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta will illuminate just how powerful, evocative and utterly immersive VR really can be.'



The VR version of the game includes the ability to peer over the edges.



The Rift version of Minecraft also includes a Minecraft "living room" where players can zoom out from the first person perspective and then return through a screen to their own personal room. From there they can continue playing the game on a screen (pictured).

Mojang says that this includes tweaks in the in-play turning. This makes it more comfortable for players and allows them to explore their VR world.

"With a VR headset, it's much easier to come face-to-face and confront monstrous crowds. The 3D audio makes the dark caves seem more terrifying, and the glow of a gorgeous sunrise appears to engulf you in a more complete way.



The OCULUS RIFT gets an official UK LAUNCH DATE



Oculus Rift has been the most talked-about tech for years. The first developer kits were distributed in 2012.



The most recent official announcement is that the kit will go on sale in the UK, Europe and Canada on the 20th of September, with a prices of PS549 or EUR699. It's already sold in the US priced at $599.



The headset is available for purchase at John Lewis, Amazon, Game and Game. The kit will include Lucky's Tale platform game, as well as hundreds of VR videos and films.



Oculus will be rolling out demo experiences at retailers across the UK in the coming weeks, with titles including: The Climb, Henry, Farlands and Oculus Dreamdeck.oculus.com/e...
