The Danish government has recreated the entire country in the popular computer game Minecraft.

The government hopes that it will make learning more enjoyable for students by being the first country to fully integrate into the massive Minecraft games.

It even designed plans for teachers' lessons to help them navigate this virtual version of their country.

The Ministry of the Environment in Denmark has created a Minecraft model of the country for players to explore.

The model downloaded is comprised of 4,000 billion blocks. It requires 1 Terabyte of storage space.

WHAT IS MINECRAFT?

Minecraft was created in 2009. Minecraft was developed in 2009.

They can then walk around various terrains, including caves, forests, and mountains.

For a bird's-eye view of the landscape, players are able to fly high in the air.

Players are given blocks and tools for building cities and towns.

As players progress as they progress, they will gain advanced tools and building blocks in different materials.

The game was initially developed for the PC but now there are Xbox 360 and mobile versions available.

The model is comprised of around 4000 billion bricks, and consumes around 1TB (1000 Gigabytes) if you want to download the entire country.

"We have created Denmark online in Minecraft so that children can plant their forests create a lake, a riding school, wind turbines, biogas plants and more," said Kirsten Brosbol (Danish Minister of the Environment).

'The imagination is the only the limit.

"This is our way to make a connection between the digital world and the natural worlds."

It was developed by Simon Kokkendorf, Thor Bjorn Nielsen and Geodatastyrelsen (the Danish mapping arm of the government),

They used publically available data on the country - from elevation models to information about buildings and roads, and translated it into Minecraft's characteristic bricks.

The couple also designed an electronic map system so that visitors can easily locate their own neighborhood in the model.

They will also be able to explore nature and landscapes as they are in real life.

You can take an outing' in the countryside in any part of Denmark and see any location in Denmark roughly in the same way as with Google Street View,' the Agency stated.

Orestad school in Copenhagen has been testing the system to teach pupils geography and maths.

In the past the teacher would play the old map of Denmark in the class room and let the students squabble over the names of the various regions of Denmark,' said Katrin Kristensen, a teacher at Orestad school.

Future Danish schoolchildren and others will be able to record in the game the animals and plants they have seen in nature.

"Now Denmark is available right here on children's tablets or computers, supporting the goal of using digital technology to enhance teaching.

"We have lots of experience using Minecraft in teaching maths.

"With the real Denmark that is now available as an Minecraft world and we'll have more opportunities to inspire learning.

"Pupils find it more fun to work with their own home and street, and so on."

However the developers have made a modification to the game - removing the ability to use explosives to blow up areas.
