Why is it why it is Popular?

So how do you make Minecraft work and is it safe to use it for children? Here's everything you should know.

Minecraft is an online "sandbox" game. Players build their own virtual worlds and experiences by using building blocks or resources. Although you will need to begin with the basics before moving on to more complex resources, you can eventually create your world in any way you'd like.

While the prices may vary depending on which platform you play on, Minecraft will never cost you more than PS25. The price includes all mods (community-made improvements to the game) and also skins (aesthetic enhancements to the character). You can play Minecraft on a tablet, smartphone, or computer.

You can play in a single player or multiplayer mode. In the multiplayer mode, players collaborate to create their own Minecraft world.

It is so popular because of this.

Minecraft is a free-form game. There aren't any rules or goals. Players can create and play as they like. It is often compared with virtual Lego.

This allows Minecraft players a lot of freedom in the way they play. You can build a fantasy world from scratch or recreate one. You can also battle enemies and explore.

It can be played at any level. In a variety of popular games, you need some level of skill to be able to take on the next difficulty. This can be a challenge for younger youngsters who may not have the abilities or unrestricted time needed to make progress in the game. In Minecraft, children can create their own adventures at any level of play.

What are the things parents should be aware of?

Age restrictions

Different Minecraft versions have different age restrictions. Certain mods could have more violence than others. Be aware that Minecraft has a chat feature in the game. Age ratings vary from 7+ to 13+.

The standard version of Minecraft's terms and condition states that children aged 13 and under require parental consent to play. Children under 13 years old can play Minecraft in the UK without parental consent. However, it's not illegal.

Despite age restrictions, Minecraft is very popular among primary school kids. The game isn't inappropriate for young children.

Chat functions

There are two chat functions in Minecraft; Realms and server chats. B2p Connections Mojang is the game's developer, hosts realm chat and moderators it. Server chat is setup by the players themselves. Usually, players invite their friends to join their Minecraft server and join the chat however, some players provide an open invitation, which allows anyone to join.

Inform children of the dangers of talking to strangers on the internet.

Be aware that users could be using Discord, another chat forum with different security settings. Make sure children are not using other platforms for communication.

Chat features let children communicate with others with similar desires in gaming. There is no way to verify who these people might be. Recommendation: Children shouldn't engage in chat with other players in games unless they are familiar with them.

It's also crucial that children don't give away any personal information about themselves, or transfer their conversations to other online areas that could be private.

YouTube videos of Minecraft

Many Minecraft users view fan-created YouTube videos to sharpen their skills and acquire new techniques.

A lot of these videos are appropriate for children. Minecraft does not have any particular graphic content, however some of the videos feature monsters, trolls, spiders and zombies, which some kids may find scary. Some of the videos have commentary that includes sexual references, and some discuss or even encourage bullying. Check these videos to determine whether you feel they're appropriate.

Try searching for 'profanity free Minecraft servers'. Even then, it's worth checking the videos before children are old enough to watch them.

You can also enable YouTube's Safety Mode to block content that is not appropriate for children.

Listen to the Parent Zone's podcast, Tech Shock.

Reporting functions

Minecraft currently doesn't offer an instant "report" function. Your child should be cautious when joining the server. Your child might be exposed to inappropriate language and snarky comments when playing with someone older than them. Minecraft reserves the right to ban any player who does not comply with the terms and conditions.

You can complain about players by going to Minecraft's helpdesk and making a complaint. This is something an adult would rather do rather than a child. It's a bit complicated.

You can report any user who breaks the rules to a moderator who is able to ban them.

Do you spot something that doesn't seem exactly right? You can email [email protected] to submit comments and feedback.
