How to Get Minecraft Capes

How can you get hold of Minecraft capes, you think? There have been rumors, whispers of a mythical piece of cloth that graces the shoulders of the most prestigious Minecraft players. Legends talk of numerous Minecraft capes that were given to the lucky few over the years. Word on the block (sigh) is that capes also modify the appearance of Minecraft Elytra, the magical wings found in end ships, as they occupy the same space on the player's back. Naturally, Minecraft capes are highly sought-after however they're not easily obtained.



Those who ventured to any Minecon event prior to Minecon Earth 2017 each received Minecraft caps; each year, a different colour and design. The most unusual are the personal caps that were given to lucky people in recognition of their achievements, such as Reddit user u/billyk_, who got a personal turtle cape for recommending that Mojang should include turtles in Minecraft.



Unless you can come up with a suggestion similar to turtles (unlikely) or travel back to the past of Minecon It appears that you're not going to obtain any of these Minecraft capes in the Java version. They're more popular in the Bedrock version, as some skin packs available in the Marketplace contain them. Get a Minecraft cape by migrating your account to Minecraft.



In a blog post published in 2020, Mojang announced that it is migrating all Minecraft Java edition accounts from Mojang to Microsoft. This is a required change and if you don't switch your account to Microsoft when the time is right and you don't get it, you'll be allowed to play Minecraft unless you use the launcher.



On the bright side, however, once you log into Minecraft with your Microsoft account, you'll be able to unlock a shiny new cape - and maybe more than that, as Mojang promises players more than one outfit to show off'. New Minecraft accounts are automatically set up with Microsoft instead of Mojang.

How do I activate Minecraft capes



If you have an official Minecraft cape, you are able to equip it prior to launching a game. However the capes you have Bedrock capes are exclusive to that version. This is also true for any capes earned in Minecraft Java version.



Start the app and click on the button to access the Dressing Room from your main menu. Then, click on the tab to the left of it, with a red cape and the Mojang logo. This will show all the available capes. Select one to equip.



To play the Java version, you need to open the Launcher and click on Minecraft: Java Edition on the left side of the screen. This brings up some options at the top which include Skins. Click this option to bring up all of your current skins. You can edit an existing skin or design a new one from this page. You can browse all of your officially-available capes by clicking the option to choose Skin File.



Get a cape with Minecraft mods



What happens if your avatar needs an outfit and you don't have the money for the cape that is free to migrate? You can make your own cape with mods. Mods like the Advanced Capes Mod make it possible to obtain any of the most sought-after capes available in the game or any cape you can imagine.



There's a caveat to this: other players you meet on multiplayer Minecraft servers won't be able to see your cape unless they also have the same mods installed. Waiting for official Mojang capes to be made available to you as your account moves is the best method to ensure that everyone can view your capes.
