How did Roundup Ready or Roundup get their names?
What exactly is Roundup Ready? Roundup Ready is a trademark that refers to a variety of genetically engineered seeds that are resistant to Roundup. These crops are called 'Roundup Ready crops'.

Roundup Then, was it really invented?
ラウンドアップ John Franz (Monsanto Chemist) first discovered Glyphosate as an herbicide within Roundup. https://www.yodobashi.com/product/100000001002109951/ The majority of herbicides available at that time were preemergent. They were applied prior to the growth of the crop and the weeds. ラウンドアップ Glyphosate's capacity to control huge numbers of grass weeds and broadleafs was totally different. Its unique environmental characteristics (soil inactivation and rapid degradation, etc.) and toxicological properties (extremely minimal levels of toxicity for mammals and other beneficial organisms) made it a revolutionary product.

What year was it when Roundup the first time it was created?
Roundup(r), originally introduced in 1974 to the market as an insecticide with broad spectrum rapidly became a top global agricultural chemical. It was initially employed on railroads, in ditches, as well as on fields during growing seasons. It allowed farmers to manage weeds such as broadleaf and grass that emerged from the soil, thereby cutting down on the need to tilling, keeping soil structure and reducing erosion.

The Roundup Ready GMOs case was next.
Monsanto scientists recognized the potential benefits Roundup(r) Recombinant DNA product, might have for farmers after the breakthroughs made in the 1970s. Ernie Jaworski, Rob Horsch, Steve Rogers, and I began working on this challenge. The group developed the first method of introducing genetic to plant species in the early 1980s. Then, we turned our attention to creating virus resistant crop varieties, insect-resistant, and Roundup-tolerant.

It was found that Roundup glyphosate impeded plant's ability to produce aromatic amino acids. ラウンドアップ Roundup's high degree in mammal safety was because of this. Glyphosate also was quickly processed in soil by microorganisms. In the latter half of the 1980s researchers discovered plant genes and microbial genes that conferred greater tolerance to herbicides. In 1987, the USDA approved the first field study of Roundup Ready crops. This was a Roundup resistant tomato crop that was derived of genetically modified tomato plants. ラウンドアップ They also showed tolerance to Roundup. In the following years the Roundup Ready gene was identified and isolated.

Let's consider soybeans for an example. The first step is to answer two questions. What is Roundup Ready soybeans? How do they make them? Roundup Ready Soybeans are a genetically engineered type of soybeans which has had its DNA changed so that they are resistant to Roundup, the herbicide. Every soybean plant that is bred with the Roundup Ready gene was implanted into it prior to when it is put to plant. This renders them insensitive to glyphosate. This permits farmers to spray their fields with Roundup Ready herbicides in order to kill weeds but not their crops.

Roundup Ready crops changed agriculture and agricultural science in 1996. Roundup resistance quickly became a popular plant in the U.S. More than 90% of U.S. soybeans and cotton, corn, and canola fields now utilize this biotech characteristic. Roundup Ready crops helped to reduce and enhance the weed control systems. They also allowed for greater yields from crops. The increasing utilization of conservation tillage can be a significant environmental benefit. By the reduction of plowing, farmers can reduce the amount of energy used and also GHG emissions while maintaining soil structure and reducing erosion. In 2013 this was equivalent to removing 28 billion kg of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. This is equivalent to removing 12.4 million vehicles off the road for one year (Source: PG Economics).
