Avanos Medical, a U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) company is recalling Cortrak*2 enteral access system because of a misplaced nasoenteric tube or nasogastric tubs which could have caused injuries and even patient deaths. feeding tube placement The recall affects 629 devices currently distributed across the United States.
Avanos offers its Cortrak*2 enteral access system for its ability to visualize the small bowel and stomach, which aids in the placement of a feeding tube. Patients can suffer from harm to their vocal cords or trachea if the tube has been inserted incorrectly. Avanos Medical has reported that there have already been more than 23 deaths and 60 injuries due to incorrect placement of feeding tubes for nasogastric patients using CORTRAK*2's Ental Access System. There have been several injuries, including respiratory failure, pneumothorax, collapsed lung perforation (a hole through the lungs' wall or bowel), pneumonia and pleural effusion, which is the excess fluid that forms between your lungs and your chest cavity.
Avanos Medical has presented a plan to update users' labeling, in order to confirm the correct placement of Nasogastric (and nasal) tubes prior to their use.
