For instance"SL" oil is more efficient than "SL" oil performs better than "SI" oil. For some diesel oils, the number four follows the letters (e.g. CF-4). This signifies that the oil was made for engines that run on four strokes. Simple!

Another type of classification is the ACEA classification (Association des Constructeurs Europeens d'Automobiles) which categorizes engines oils into three groups. For traditional gasoline and diesel lighter vehicles, Group A/B is for. Group C (catalytic convertor or particle filter, gasoline and diesel "LOW SAPS")). Then, group E, which is for vehicles with heavy loads.
