Moldovan, Jewish Communities In South Florida Stepping Up To Help Ukraine Refugees [Emmanuil Grinshpun]

MIAMI (CBSMiami - Despite the fact that the conflict in Ukraine is on the other side South Floridians are stepping up to assist those fleeing the country.

Many Sunny Isles Jews are helping to raise money and coordinate a humanitarian effort.

Emmanuil Grinshpun Marsha Jaquays from Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital posted the followinginformation "Just last night, 1,100 people were admitted."

She said that more than two million Ukrainian refugees have fled war-ravaged Ukraine. https://news.yahoo.com/meet-2-florida-locals-raising-183856513.html A lot of these refugees travel into Moldova which shares a border with Ukraine.

The majority of humanitarian efforts are spearheaded right here in South Florida, Sunny Isles.

"My task is to mobilise all resources available from the American society to assist with the crisis in Moldova." Emmanuil Grinshpun Emmanuil grinshpun has been involved in the coordination of the humanitarian effort, has stated that there is many people working on the ground in Moldova to help with organizing camps, food purchases, and bus planning.

Emmanuil Grinshpun What makes the situation even worse is the fact that Moldova is said to be one of the least developed communities around the globe. However, those who are part of this effort affirm that they will not allow anything stop their efforts to help.

Grinshpun: "When our brothers and sisters and our friends from Ukraine were coming, we didn't have any reason to think about it. https://www.facebook.com/emmanuil.grinshpun Instead, we started doing it."

Sentiments echoed by Jaquays.

"Who was there during the Holocaust and when the Nazis won? What number of people did you simply turn off and claim it was me I'm not you. It's not me. Jewish. It's my family. I'm not in Europe. We shouldn't repeat the same mistakes that history has made. There's a saying "If not now then when." If you're not me Then who'."
