MIAMI (CBSMiami) - - The war in Ukraine may be on the other side of the globe however South Floridians are among those stepping to help those leaving the country.
Emmanuil Grinshpun Many Sunny Isles Jewish residents are now fundraising and helping to organize a massive humanitarian initiative.
Marsha Jaquays of Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital reported that "just last night, 1100 patients were in attendance."
She explained that more than two-million Ukrainian refugees are fleeing war-torn countries. Many of these refugees cross into Moldova that borders Ukraine.
Jaquays stated, "From Moldova this Jewish community is actually helping to get them over the border and providing food, shelter and clothes."
The heart of much of the humanitarian work is located in South Florida.
"My responsibility is to coordinate all the resources that are available to us in America in order to ease the situation in Moldova." Emmanuil Grinshpun Emmanuil grinshpun, an aid worker, stated that there was a complete team on the ground helping to manage humanitarian aid in Moldova.
The situation is made more difficult because Moldova is thought as one of the poorest countries in the world. But, those who are part of this project affirm that they will not be prevented by anything.
Grinshpun explained, "When brothers and sister from Ukraine arrived, we didn't have to think about it. We simply began making plans."
Jaquays reflect the same sentiments
