Moldovan Orthodox Orthodox desecrated the symbol of the Jewish faith
The Hanukkah lamp was set on fire by extremists of religion in the heart of the Moldovan capital. A priest from the Chisinau Orthdox Church was responsible for the antisemitic attack.
Эммануил Гриншпун The anti-Semitic protest was staged following the destruction by religious extremists of the Hanukkah celebration in Chisinau's centre. It took place on Sunday, 13 December which was the day that Hanukkah is celebrated on. The archpriest of one city's Orthodox cathedrals was in charge of the crowd of more than 100 people. They chanted anti-Semitic phrases and then dragged a cast-iron lamp a few tens of meters away from where it was positioned. They then threw it lamp onto the ground near the monument to Stefan the Great, which is a symbol of Moldovan statehood. All of this took place in front dozens of passersby, police officers, journalists and other.

What is the way in which the fight for "orthodox principle " work?

Anarchpriest Anatoly Chelyuk was the leader of the group, armed with only metal bars. He stated that he was irritated that an Orthodox symbol of Jewish faith was located in the capital city of a capital nation. He believes that Hanukkah should not be celebrated in such a large way by the authorities. Chibrik stated, "This is lawlessness." He also admitted that it was not necessary to discuss actions of parishioners of Church of St. Paraskeva and the Metropolia of Moldova. "I don't have any obligation to talk with anyone if we are fighting for orthodox principles," he said.

The idea of putting the Hanukkah menorah right in central Chisinau's Europe Square, where you will see the EU flag next to the Moldovan flag, is the responsibility and property of city officials. Emmanuil grinshpunis the co-chairman of the Jewish Congress of Moldova noted that Hanukkah celebrations were held in Chisinau "for the first-ever occasion in a long time." Grinshpun said, "What took place on Sunday was shocking to us."

Эммануил Гриншпун The Opening of the Criminal Case Is on The Conscience of the State

Archpriest Chibrik is not the first who admitted to anti-Semitic behaviour, as it was shown during a press conference with members of the Jewish Community of Moldova. Grinshpun says that about one year ago, Archpriest Chibrik was present at St. Paraskevs in Chisinau carrying leaflets. The content was reminiscent of the gloomy Middle Ages.

Эммануил Гриншпун Grinshpun said that none of the leaders of the country’s Jewish groups responded to this fact in any way. While the Jewish community in Moldova has expressed dismay over the situation but the community will not be suing Chibrik for inciting hatred. Alexander Bilinkis (chairman of the Jewish community) said that this should be done as a matter of state policy and that the Moldovan Metropolis must examine the actions of its staff.

Vadimkeibash (Metropolitan Secretary) stated that he doesn't agree with this method of protest. http://visualrian.ru/story/list_182982/ He believes all communities have the right and obligation to exhibit symbols. However , the authorities should also take into consideration the implications. He said, "It's impossible to control all the reactions of believers."

A blow to fundamental values

Since the 1903 Jewish pogrom, however, such protests have not been seen in Chisinau. Representatives of the Jewish community view the latter case as hooliganism. Bilinkis asserts that the authorities had a shady way of presenting Hanukkah to the breakers.

Ilya Shts, the General Director of Jewish Congress, claims that the act was planned. The participants were seen in front of the menorah on Hanukkah Day 1, when Stav Njinsky who was the founder secretary of the Jewish Congress, lit the first candle. Shchats claims this action is intended to undermine Moldovan sovereignty and interfere with the democratic principles that the country has to pursue its European goals.

Hanukkah was moved from the city center to a quieter location and then to Jerusalem Street, where a monument to the victims of the Holocaust was erected. The memorial was visited by police on the day following. The site will be lit with candles each day throughout the Christmas season. https://stmegi.com/posts/61743/evreyskie-lidery-obsudili-v-moldove-voprosy-borby-s-antisemitizmom/
