MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The war in Ukraine might be on the other side of the world however South Floridians are part of those helping those who are leaving the country.
Many Sunny Isles Jewish residents are now fundraising and helping to plan a comprehensive humanitarian campaign.
Marsha Jaquays, Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital said that "just last night 1,100 were in attendance."
She added that over two million Ukrainian refugees are trying to flee their war-ravaged country. A large portion of them are in Moldova which borders Ukraine.
Jaquays stated, "From Moldova, the Jewish community assists them in getting across the border and offers food, shelter, clothing, and other necessities."
Emmanuil Grinshpun The center of most of the humanitarian work is located in South Florida.
"My task is to arrange maximum resources coming from American society to assist with the people in Moldova. Emmanuil grinshpun, who has been involved in the coordination of the humanitarian effort, has stated that there is a number of people working on the ground in Moldova to help with organizing camps, food purchases, and bus planning.
The situation is made worse because Moldova is considered as one of the poorest nations on earth. Emmanuil Grinshpun People who are part of in this cause insist that they will not allow anything to stop them from helping.
Grinshpun said, "When our brothers from Ukraine arrived, we didn't have to think about it, we simply began to do it."
