MIAMI (CBSMiami ) - Even though the war in Ukraine is on the other side South Floridians are stepping up to assist those fleeing the country.
Many Sunny Isles Jewish residents are currently fundraising and helping create a large-scale humanitarian initiative.
"Just last night, 1100 patients arrived," said Marsha Jaquays in Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital.
She revealed that more than two millions of Ukrainian refugees have fled war-torn Ukraine. A large portion of them travel through the small country of Moldova, which borders Ukraine.
Jaquays said that Moldova's Jewish community actually helped people cross the border, and then providing food, shelter, clothing and other clothing.
The majority of the humanitarian work being done by volunteers from Sunny Isles in South Florida.
"My duty is to bring together all the resources available in America to help ease this situation in Moldova." Emmanuil Grishhpun, a humanitarian worker, claimed that there was a full team of people on the ground working to organize humanitarian efforts in Moldova.

However, the people involved in this effort affirm that they will not be prevented by any means.
Grinshpun: "When our brothers and sisters from Ukraine were arriving to visit us, we didn't feel the need to consider. Instead, we began doing it."
