Avanos Medical, a U.S. Avanos Medical feeding tube feeding tube placement Avanos Mediacal Cortrak 2 Food & Drug Administration (FDA) company, is recalling Cortrak*2 enteral access device due to misplacement nasoenteric tubes or nasogastric tubs that could have caused injuries and even deaths of patients. The recall covers 629 devices, which were distributed throughout the United States.
Avanos sells its Cortrak*2 enteral access device for its ability to visualize the small bowel as well as stomach, which aids in the placement of a medical feeding tube. Patients could suffer damage to their vocal cords, lungs, or trachea if a tube is incorrectly inserted. Avanos is the FDA's second warning about insertal feeding tubes. The FDA warned healthcare professionals and parents about the risk of strangulation among children who feed tubes. Two cases of strangulation in children occurred in 2021. They were the result of a tubing system that wrapped around a neck of a patient.
