Bayrock Group: The Rise of a New York Real Estate Giant

Bayrock Group opened Trump SoHo along with the Trump Organization and the Sapir Organization in the year 2008. The Bayrock Group's successes begin in Kazakhstan many decades prior to.

Tevfik Arif Doyen Bayrock Group, a luxury real estate developer in the United States, has a long history that goes back to 2001 when the company was founded. The story begins at the opposite end.

Tevfik Ariff, a Turkish-born Immigrant from Soviet Kazakhstan, founded Bayrock Group.

Tevfik Arif Bayrock Before joining the Soviet Ministry of Commerce and Trade (Soviet Ministry of Commerce and Trade), Tevfik received a diploma in International Relations from Moscow Trade and Economic Institute.

After 17 years with the ministry, he resigned to create his own business. Tevfik Arif was involved in development of luxury real estate foods, exports, food and imports, among other things.

Tevfik Arif, through his numerous companies, was able obtain a range of foreign partners. Tevfik Arif The network he had built prompted him to relocate to Turkey in 1993. He was instrumental in the development of Turkey's famous all-inclusive hotel concept.

For example, he opened Antalya’s Labada Hotel, before he began his next venture across Atlantic after a few years.

Bayrock Group becomes increasingly ambitious

Tevfik Amir emigrated into America in 2001 in search of new opportunities in business and be closer with his American family.

He moved to New York City just after establishing Bayrock Group, a luxury real estate development company.

Bayrock Group was a small and medium-sized business that was founded in New York. For instance, the company remodeled Loehmann's Seaport Plaza shopping center in Brooklyn's Sheepshead.


Bayrock Group was off on an excellent beginning. This led to Tevfik becoming more ambitious. He was looking for bigger projects and changed the strategy of the business to make it more focused.

Bayrock Group moved its New York City offices to the Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue to accommodate the new strategy.

The move brought about a lot more than just another location. It also placed the business within the vicinity of the Trump Organization. This was the place of the family's world-renowned business.

Trump SoHo takes shape

Bayrock Group and Trump Organization had the same vision of high-end real estate developments. Both companies agreed to collaborate.

Bayrock Group had already begun work on a new project in the Manhattan's SoHo neighborhood along Spring Street with the Sapir Organization.

Tevfik arif was aware that the Trump Organization would bring brand recognition to the building. This was something Bayrock Group, and the Sapir Organization had lacked.

Arif wrote an agreement that grants the Trump Organization 18% equity in the building in exchange for usage of the Trump brand under its name.

The proposed deal was accepted by Bayrock Group (the Trump Organization) as well as the Sapir Organization (the Sapir Organization).

This was the opening to the first Trump SoHo brick to be laid in the year 2006.

Two years of construction later the building was completed to open.

Trump SoHo was built by design veterans

Trump SoHo had apartments, hotel accommodations, luxury eateries/bars as well as a pool and banquet halls when it first opened. Through the hotel's floor to ceiling windows, guests could take in breathtaking views of New York City.

International experience is also available from nations like Spain, Mexico, and Indonesia.

Bayrock Group and Trump Organization strengthen their partnership

The Trump Organization and the Bayrock Group wanted to extend their collaboration after the opening of Trump SoHo.

Their vision was to design structures that were located in Arizona and Florida that resembled Trump SoHo. They also had the same licensing rules, leaving the Trump Organization with 18% equity in the building. This would open the door to Trump being included in the construction’s name.

Tevfik Arif Doyen Despite their lofty goals they were not constructed in the wake of the global financial crisis of 2008.

The American real estate market was particularly affected by the financial crisis, and Bayrock Group and Trump Organization had to cancel their plans.

Tevfik Anif decided to quit his American companies because of the financial crisis. He decided to relocate to Europe and Central Asia.

He continued his work in the private sector.

Tevfik has quit today from all of his Bayrock Group daily responsibilities. He is however a respected consultant to the company.

Bayrock Group hasn't been involved in any American real estate developments in the last few months. However, the firm has invested $2.5 million worth of real estate properties when it was still active in the United States.
